Wegen Rounded Mandolin Pick

The M150 is the Wegen 1.5 mm Mandolin pick.  The standard version comes without the grip holes.  I call my version of the M150 the Wegen Rounded since all of the Wegen picks I sell can be considered mandolin picks.  I also customize the Wegen Rounded Pick with grip holes and offer it in 3 thicknesses, 1.5 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.0 mm.

Wegen Triangle Mandolin Pick

The Wegen Triangle is the same as the Wegen TF140.  At one time I used this pick for both guitar and mandolin.  Then I switched to the Rounded because the rounded edge made it easier to play faster.  I sell the Wegen Triangle in 3 thicknesses, 1.4 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.0 mm.  I find the thicker pick to give a better tone on the mandolin.  I sell most of the 1.0 mm thickness picks to guitar players and while I like the thicker pick for mandolin, each thickness produces a different tone and others may prefer a thinner pick.

Wegen Triangle Rounded Mandolin Pick

A combination of the Wegen Triangle and the Wegen Rounded, we call this the Wegen Triangle Rounded.  It is close to the Triangle size and shape but with rounded tips.  It has the same 1.5 mm thickness of the Wegen Rounded.  While I liked the rounded shape of the Wegen Rounded, I missed the size of the Wegen Triangle.  The Wegen Triangle Rounded was the answer for  me and is now my favorite mandolin pick.

Many consider Blue Chip as the gold standard of picks.  The Blue Chip produces a very clean sound.  The Wegen is a much warmer sounding pick.  There is a difference in tone between the 3 Wegen picks, Triangle, Triangle Rounded and Rounded.  The Triangle is the brightest of the 3 picks and the Rounded is the warmest sound.  If you want to get closer to the clean sound of a Blue Chip, then the Triangle is the best option.  I like the warmer sound but the size of the Triangle so the Triangle Rounded is my cup of tea.

Here is a picture of the 3 picks with the Triangle on the bottom, the Triangle Rounded in the middle and the Rounded on the top.

Wegen Mandolin Picks

I also sell two other variations, the Wegen Bluegrass pick and the Wegen Big City pick.  The Wegen Bluegrass is the traditional teardrop shape in a 1.4 mm thickness.  The Wegen Big City pick is a version of the Wegen Jazz pick that has been reduced in thickness to 1.4 mm to be more fitting for a mandolin.

I recommend at a minimum trying the Triangle, Triangle Rounded and Rounded pick to find the best sound and feel for you.
